SPOOKY: Colombiana twins die at the exact same moment

weird_3311.jpgBy far the weirdest Latino-related story of the day:

BOGOTÁ.- Twins María Catalina and Ana Catalina Herazo Villadiego, 76 years old, died last week on the same day, at the same time, and from the same disease in two different towns in the Caribbean region of Colombia, said local media.

The elderly women, were born in Sincé (departamento de Sucre); one died there and another Corozal, this past February 28, according to the ‘El Heraldo’ newspaper of Barranquilla.

Is there a scientific explanation for this? Is this a hoax? Whatever it is, it creeped me out.

Keeping it real back in the motherland

El%20Salvador%202.jpgThe story is a common one: a person immigrates to the United States out of necessity, but vows to return for the rest of his or her family. The promise is kept and the family also leaves for the States. The new vow is to return home one day, when things get better. This doesn’t usually happen. Sucked up by the daily strife of just making it in a country as daunting as the U.S., that dream is easily erased for some.

Fortunately, that isn’t the case of a group of Salvadoreños from Houston. Not only are they helping their pueblo, Olomega, solve some very basic infrastructure issues such as the building of bridges and roads, they are taking it one step further: they plan to make their pueblo a destination, and hopes that tourists begin to see it for the beauty it as for them:

Standing on the shore of the serene Lake Olomega, Nora Pineda envisions passenger boats cruising its surface, amateur fishermen lining its edges and musicians serenading tourists along a boardwalk.

She said hundreds of tourists could visit Olomega on weekends if restaurants, hostels and fishing spots are built near the water.

Latino Fell on the Donald’s Chopping Block

bio_jose.jpg Don’t ask why I was watching NBC’s The Apprentice last night but I tuned in just in time to watch Donald Trump (who seems meaner this year no?) axe Cubano via Miami, Jose aka “Pepi”. Jose (I’m sorry, I cannot call him “Pepi” especially the way everyone on the show pronounced it ,like the adjective “peppy” ) is touted on the official Apprentice website as “the American dream in action”. If only you could see roll my eyes. Jose does have an impressive background regardless of how it’s labeled for ratings. He’s an attorney, was the first “Hispanic” to earn the title of Florida College Student of the Year and is Ivy league educated pero sorry mujeres, according the website, he is in a relationship.
