JUANEs-2.jpgLast week Mala reported on Shakira’s claim that her crossover into the English language market had nothing to do with money. It seems that not all the money in the world, his label’s pressure or potential for fame in Europe will make Juanes do it:

The artist is doing so while performing in his native language. Juanes — whose full name is Juan Esteban Aristizabal — speaks English fluently, but is not interested in it for singing.

“I’m still thinking in Espanol, I still dream in Espanol, and I write my music in Espanol,” he says. “I don’t see why I need to change.”

univision.jpg Univision may be putting a “For Sale” sign on themselves. The Spanish Language media company is considering putting themselves up for auction to the highest bidder. The company, worth about $10 billion, owns the No. 1 Spanish-language television network, radio broadcaster, Music Company and online operations. Univision is the broadcast home of Don Francisco’s Sabado Gigante, the talk show of the Latina Oprah, Cristina, and of course novelas. But did you know that:

The company is run by A. Jerrold Perenchio…who does not speak Spanish, [and] has also been a big contributor to President Bush and the Republican Party.

Think of that when you switch on your TV.

I guess I’m wondering how you guys view Puerto Rico or puertoricans, do you think they would fall under Latin Americans, Americans or do we have a special class all by ourselves?

What we didn’t see were the Latino nominees and winners. We’re not gonna be like the rest of the world and act like that didn’t happen or wait till the Latin Grammy Awards to talk about who the Recording Academy chose as the best Spanish language artistas.
