Minnesota governor goes after immigrants

vstory.pawlenty.jpgGov. Tim Pawlenty is concerned about illegal immigrants residing in his state. Concerned is an understatement, actually. After years of injecting anti-immigrant sentiment into his campaign messages, he’s once again making immigration — a federal issue — a platform for his re-election campaign in traditionally Democratic Minnesota:

His administration issued a report in December estimating that as many as 85,000 illegal immigrants live in Minnesota, at a cost to taxpayers of up to $188 million a year.

Democrats and other critics questioned the Republican governor’s numbers and his motives. But that hasn’t stopped Pawlenty from making immigration a top issue as he seeks re-election.

Maria Antonieta Collins axes the ex

0060852283.jpgFamous ex-anchor of Univision news, Maria Antonieta Collins, has just written a book about, of all things, how to deal with your partner’s ex. Apparently, a very nasty little ex got in the middle of her matrimonio and almost destroyed it. Very Mary J. Blige. Now she’s out to tell people how to avoid such telenovela-style drama:

Después de casi diez años de feliz matrimonio, Collins tuvo que enfrentar una crisis inesperada: la reaparición de la ex de su esposo, una situación que llegó a causarle grandes problemas a la pareja.

To the U.S. Chavez=Hitler

4:15 pm By Maegan La Mala · Politics|Venezuela · 3 Comments

chavez.jpg I wasn’t aware that Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez was committing genocide but don’t tell that to United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld who said at an event last night that Chavez:

…fue elegida legalmente, como Adolf Hitler fue elegido legalmente, y luego consolidó el poder y ahora está, obviamente, trabajando de cerca con Fidel Castro y el señor Morales y otros”.

Maybe Rummy just got tired of people comparing his boss, U.S. President George W. Bush to the fascist dictator responsible for the deaths of millions of Jews among others and is playing a game of “I know you are but what am I?”

per-003861.jpgMen everywhere will rejoice upon the news that the Sofia Vergara wil return to the small screen for their viewing pleasure. You thought you had lost her with the cancellation of her show, Hot Properties, but Sofia’s set to come back (and contrary to her last venture) on a hit show:

Todos tenemos derecho a una segunda oportunidad y aunque con sus Propiedades calientes (Hot Properties) en la televisión estadounidense no pudo lograr el éxito esperado, Sofía Vergara intentará demostrar esta vez que además de su singular belleza, también tiene mucho talento y al parecer ahora formará parte de la serie Desperate Housewives de la cadena ABC.

shakira.jpg Colombiana Shakira has been defending her right, to sing in English. She’s been striking back against those that criticize her decision to crossover and sing in English.

I’m sure the money doesn’t hurt either and bueno why should it? As much as artists want to defend their artistic integrity, they are also doing a job and doing a job means getting paid. For Latino stars getting paid more means playing to English speaking consumers. I mean if she really wants to build bridges and be open to other cultures, when is her Chinese album coming out? Do your thing mujer, just make sure you don’t alienate those who supported you when you were running around with los pies descalzos.
