03rev6.jpgJust a couple of Latino names on the Oscar nominee list this year:

Rodrigo Prieto
(Mexico), Best Cinematography for Brokeback Mountain

Emmanuel Lubezki
(Mexico) Best Cinematography for The New World

Gustavo Santalolla (Argentina) Best Soundtrack for Brokeback Mountain

If you like, you can also throw in “honorary Latino” Joaquin Phoenix (actor, “Walk the Line”) and Spaniard Alberto Iglesias (soundtrack, “The Constant Gardener”) para hacer bulto.

lorena.jpg Mexican estrella Lorena Herrera may be wearing a fat suit for her role in the theatrical production Mi Amiga la Gorda, playing February 10th, 11th, and 12th in Mexico City, pero that hasn’t made her any nicer towards fat people. Today she modeled her fat suit on Telemundo’s Cotorreando and she also modeled her grace and charm when she chastised fat people asking them via camera:

What are you going to tell God when you die and have to explain what you did with the beautiful body he gave you as a baby?

Herrera also said that she would never date a fat person. Nice to see fat hate is alive and well in Mexico as it is in the U.S.

alma_logo.jpgRemember the Alma Awards? After a three-year long dis…appearance, they are back.

ABC has announced the resurrection of the American Latino Media Arts — or Alma — Awards, it was reported Monday.

The Almas, which have been on a three-year hiatus, will tape May 7 at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium and air June 5, Daily Variety reported.

The event will be co-produced by none other than Eva Longoria. A host still has not been announced. The last edition’s host was Paul Rodriguez, so could it be Carlos Mencia?

JLO2.jpg We may not have represented this morning at the Oscar nominations pero we can be proud er avergonzadas that our ‘lil Latina darling Jennifer Lopez is nominated for a Razzie in the Worse Actress category for her role in Monster in Law. The Razzies, run by The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation, celebrate the worst achievements in film. Ay but J.Lo. shouldn’t feel too bad. Jessica Alba is her hermana in the category for her roles in Fantastic Four and Into the Blue. La Lopez has one Razzie under her belt for her groundbreaking 2003 performance in Gigli.
