I have a lot of respect for Carlos Delgado, for having the conviction to stand behind his beliefs. The former Florida Marlin has refused to stand for the singing of God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch of baseball games.
I find the singing of God Bless America I tad bit jingoistic. I’ve never understood why the national anthem is played during a sporting event. Singing Take Me Out the Ball Game is awesome. Singing God Bless America is not. What does God blessing America have to do with baseball anyways?
Anyhow, Carlos Delgado was traded this off-season to the New York Mets. Controversy soon followed when Anna Benson, the wife of Mets pitcher Kris Benson, criticized Delgado for being “unpatriotic” for his refusal to stand. Not standing for God Bless America is unpatriotic? I think that people that call other people unpatriotic are unpatriotic, especially when the Boriqua ball player is exercising his first amendment right.

I don’t stand for the pledge of alligence or the anthem and sure as hell not for God Bless America. I stay silent and seated. It is my form of protest. I do not pledge aligence to a flag, I do not pledge alligence to a symbol that represents a government I do not support.

If you do not stand for this, then get the hell out of America. This is the problem with many of the people in America today. People are getting too liberal on such important things. I am not talking about many of todays political bitches. Get back to the basics and maybe our society will be a better place. Maybe we wouldn’t see as much crime, teenage mothers, drug and alcohol addition, poor education along with low IQ scores. The list goes on and on. Wake up people and be more aware of your surroundings and what is going on in todays world.
